Many members and sympathisers of the FDU-Inkingi, along with other opponents, have been imprisoned for defending democracy and human rights in Rwanda.
Victoire Ingabire Umuhoza
Having returned to Rwanda in 2010 to register the party and stand in the presidential election, our former president Victoire Ingabire Umuhoza was sentenced to fifteen years in prison. The African Court on Human and Peoples' Rights ruled that her conviction violated her rights to freedom of expression and to an adequate defence. She was granted a presidential pardon in 2018, but remains deprived of part of her political rights.
Our imprisoned members
Many of our members have been murdered, imprisoned or disappeared. The FDU-Inkingi demand the release of all political prisoners, an end to arbitrary detention and respect for everyone's right to a fair trial.
